Our letter this week is "Dd" and we will work with describing words (adjectives) and story elements such as plot, setting, characters, and the sequence of story events. We will begin working with the words, "we" and "at" as we prepare to add them to our high-frequency word wall. We will add two poems to our poetry binders and a phonics decodable book to our book boxes. The children will write in their journals and we will work again with math journals.
Math ~ Our focus this week is on measuring by weight and working with the concept of temperature.
Science ~ We will revisit the study of our five senses and complete an activity where the kids will guess the identity of various unknown items using only their sense of smell. They will rotate to different stations, smell the scent in the cup, and draw pictures of their guess. An unveiling at the end will reveal the actual scents in each cup.
Art ~ The children will be creating polar bears using a template, construction paper, and cotton balls.
Mrs. Kvilhaug will be teaching the first of three lessons about bullying on Monday. These lessons show the children how to deal with bullies, when to use their words, and when to ask for help.
Mark your calendars for the Poly Drive Talent Show. It will be held on Thursday February 24th at Lewis and Clark Middle School at 5:30 p.m. This is generally for the older kids, but this year the kindergartners will be performing a dance number choreographed by Mrs. Reas and it will be a lot of fun. It will be a great time and I hope you are able to attend with your child and watch him or her move to the beat!
You may have noticed the "brief" report card comments this quarter. The district is utilizing a report card program that limits the space available for comments. We will conduct parent-teacher conferences again at the end of March, but if you have questions regarding your child's report card, let me know and we can set up a time to visit.
I hope you have a fantastic week!
About Mrs. Beatty
I teach kindergarten at Poly Drive Elementary and just love the days that I spend with the little ones! I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 27 years and we have two boys. Josh is 22 and lives in San Diego, CA. He married the love of his life this summer and we were thrilled to welcome Jessica to our family. Our son Tyler is 18 and attends Skyview. He was very proud to be the Best Man in his brother's wedding. We have a pet box turtle named Tortuga. I love to volunteer at our church, spend time outdoors with my family ~ especially camping, and I LOVE to read and learn new things!
