Monday is our 100th day of school!!! It is so hard to believe that we have reached this milestone already and we have shared 100 glorious days in kindergarten!!! During each of these days, your child has amazed me, inspired me, and has added joy to the day. The academic and social progress has been tremendous and I never tire of watching the children explore our world and grasp new concepts. Kindergarten truly is a year of exploration, discovery, and triumph . . . maybe they should make an action-adventure movie based on a day in the life of your child! Be sure to ask your little one about our various "100th Day" activities.
Our letter this week is "Ll" and we will learn about plural nouns (one and more than one), and we will spend some time talking about how we develop and nurture friendships. This ties in nicely with Mrs. Kvilhaug's lesson about bullying. I will introduce the words "one" and "what" for future addition to our word wall. We will add two poems to our poetry binders and a phonics decodable book to our book boxes.
Wednesday is Groundhog Day, so we will learn about and discuss this legendary critter and create a groundhog crown to take home that day.
Text Talk ~ Our story this week is "Dear Juno" and our six vocabulary words are: soared, gentle, communicate, noticed, crisp, & eager.
Math ~ We will begin our next chapter that focuses on the days of the week, months of the year, the seasons, and concepts of time.
Ms. Baskerville, our student teacher continues to add more and more teaching time to her week and she has developed a strong rapport with the children. She is doing a super job and has been a great addition to our room. If you have not had a chance to meet her yet, stop in a say hello sometime.
The reading portion of the Read-a-thon began on Saturday and I was very pleased that 14 students from our class were able to participate in the fund-raising portion of this event. All of the children will participate daily this week in reading activities at school and you can count 20 minutes per day on your child's reading log.
Our collection of coffee and tea items is beginning to grow for the talent show silent auction basket for our room. If you wish to provide basket items or cash donations, please send them with your child and our room coordinator will create a basket masterpiece from our room. Thanks for your support of this event!
Speaking of the talent show ~ don't forget to mark your calendars for February 24th from 5:30 to approximately 8:30. The dinner begins at 5:30 and the entertainment is scheduled to begin at 7:00. The kindergartners are performing a dance number and I sure hope you and your child can attend. It will be adorable and memorable!
Have a fantastic week~
About Mrs. Beatty
I teach kindergarten at Poly Drive Elementary and just love the days that I spend with the little ones! I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 27 years and we have two boys. Josh is 22 and lives in San Diego, CA. He married the love of his life this summer and we were thrilled to welcome Jessica to our family. Our son Tyler is 18 and attends Skyview. He was very proud to be the Best Man in his brother's wedding. We have a pet box turtle named Tortuga. I love to volunteer at our church, spend time outdoors with my family ~ especially camping, and I LOVE to read and learn new things!
